Superintendent – Wind Monitoring Tower Installations

Work Location:

Based in Grand Forks, ND, National Wind Assessments.

National Wind Assessments is an employee-owned company supplying premium wind assessment services to wind energy projects across the country. Meteorological (Met) towers are used to measure wind speeds and determine wind farm layout and power potential. Met towers can range in height from 50 Meters to 80 Meters. Wind data and direction is collected at various heights of the tower to analyze speed, wind sheer, direction, and seasonal wind differentiation. Accurate wind data is extremely valuable for any wind energy project. The use of met towers decrease variable wind data by measuring speeds near actual wind turbine hub heights.

Travel required to project locations within the US.

Job Description:

Must have prior experience and a proven track record supervising lattice tower installations. Leadership abilities required to direct a reliable and responsible team.

Coordinate project planning to ensure quality installations in a timely and efficient manner. Supervise and manage all aspects of tower installation including but not limited to; personal, safety, equipment, sub-contractors, inspections, documentation, materials and supplies. Willing to learn and supervise alternative tower installations, maintenance and new office tasks.

Requirements:

  • Experience installing lattice towers and supervising a crew
  • Tower climbing and fall protection certification
  • Self-motivated, responsible, accountable, safety conscious, and detail oriented
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Ability to maintain coverage under company's insurance plans
  • Must pass post offer pre-employment drug test
  • Good communication and organizational skills, team oriented
  • Some basic computer skills – word, excel, outlook
  • Frequent overnight travel as well as working overtime is required
  • Ability to work outside in all elements; including but not limited to snow, rain and extreme temperatures
  • Willing to perform physical tasks
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs on a regular basis

Chief Development Officer

Function
The Chief Development Officer will supervise the company’s development staff and oversee all development activity.

Founded in year 2003, National Wind, LLC is the nation’s largest developer of utility scale community wind projects. National Wind has 42 employees with 13 projects in 8 Midwestern states. National Wind has a pipeline of 3.6 GW of active projects and expects to add an additional 1GW of projects in 2010.

Job Description
The Chief Development Officer’s will become a member of National Wind’s senior management team and will oversee all development staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, project management and project finance teams.
  • Enhance development processes and procedures to scale with growth.
  • Provide companywide leadership and direction.
  • Monitor the business analytics on each of the projects, including modeling, cost assumptions, equity returns, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA a strong plus.
  • Wind experience required.
  • Must have experience managing and directing projects and teams.
  • Strong knowledge of energy economics and market drivers in the U.S. markets (Canada helpful).
  • Ability to operate at a strategic level as well as detail orientation.
  • Coordinate and work closely with cross functional resources.

Communications Intern

Job Description
National Wind is seeking a Communications Intern to start in September. The internship will last through fall semester with ideal candidates having the ability to extend into the spring semester as well. Applicants must be available to work 15-25 hrs a week in our office, near Uptown Minneapolis, sometime between 8AM and 5PM.

Duties

  • Assist with writing and distributing marketing materials including newsletters and press releases
  • Write web content and help maintain the company blog
  • Prepare mailings and other miscellaneous communications initiatives

Requirements

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior with at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Major: Any course of study with a focus on good writing. Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, English and Environmental Studies preferred
  • Excellent writing, grammar and proofreading skills
  • Experience creating content with the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) is highly desired
  • Must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic about renewable energy

Web Design Intern

Job Description
National Wind is seeking a web design intern to assist in maintaining and developing its array of corporate websites. National Wind operates a company website, nationalwind.com, its wind assessments website, nationalwindassessments.com, and the websites of 13 wind project developments. Duties

  • Keep websites updated with the latest project-specific information as progress is made
  • Keep websites updated with latest versions of Drupal core releases
  • Ensure all websites are strictly W3C standards compliant
  • Ensure all websites achieve cross-browser compatibility
  • Help identify key areas for website improvement and take the lead in implementing those improvements where needed and/or approved
  • Assist with various directives and projects as needed

Requirements

  • Junior or Senior student in pursuit of a degree in Web Design/Development, Computer Science/Programming, Communications, or related field with applicable knowledge and experience
  • At least a 3.0 GPA
  • Highly proficient in HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Working knowledge of content management systems such as Drupal
  • Self-starter, able to manage multiple projects and work without much oversight
